yeah, the jetta and passat were designed by americans. because the jetta sells like crap in europe vwag thought it'd be a good idea to let the americans design the mk6 jetta (since the jetta was a top seller here). the passat was discontinued in north america (but not europe) to make way for vw's new midsized sedan (also designed by the americans) which had some code name that i don't remember (msw or something), while europe was going to still enjoy the passat. the new name for the uber secret midsized sedan? the passat.

at least the new tiguan looks pretty cool.

Which is amusing when you think that VAG with Audi has some of the best looking designs recently. It's like they're trying to get people to think VWs are ugly and move them up to Audis.

well, the point is that the american designed vw's are ugly (passat and jetta) while the german designed ones are still cool looking imo (golf, scirocco, polo, tiguan, hell i bet even the new euro passat will be cool looking).

the americans were looking for practicability, not necessarily style (or performance if you want to break it down), which totally sucks. they just wanted a cheap vw and they got it by cutting costs all across the board (for the jetta and passat, that is).
