with our dollar doing so well i was thinking about heading south to pick up some tires. have any of you done this before? where did you go? i'll basically go down, get them mounted, have lunch, then come back up. i figure it'd just be an afternoon.

I got tires from Discount Tire in Bellingham. You can get them a lot cheaper from ebay, but you'd have to deal with the hassle of getting it shipped to some place, then picking them up and bringing them somewhere to get them installed.

Price at Discount Tire aren't too bad.

heck, the price at discount is like $20 more a tire than at tire rack. i guess $80 is worth the install/balance?

Yeah, Tire Rack is cheaper, but don't you have to pay for delivery? And yeah, there's the installation thing too.

yeah, if i get it delivered to jen wang's house it'll cost $50. then probably another $100 for mount and balance.

i have a line on a used set of rims/tires, if that falls through i may have to bite the bullet and drive down to discount tire.

Sorry, I thought they had free installation... I remember they did, but maybe they don't anymore.
It's $16 per tire for install and balancing.

hm. so that'll be $160 over the price of tire rack.
it's pretty similar now... not sure if it's worth it. if i got the same tires (hankook evo v12) here, it'd be like $200 per. it might just be cheaper/easier to get them local.

the tires were too big. i'd have to buy his rims and then get new tires anyway.
i could have tried to make them fit but they almost for sure would rub up in the front, even though my car's not that low.
