box vs. dropbox

there are ftp apps for ios, but quickly browsing the over the few apps i see, i don't see any that allow pushing and streaming which was my point. yea, ftp is a protocol in the end, and i'm sure an app could be developed to use ftp as a basis for it's push/pull/stream protocol, but why bother when there's a ton of cloud apps out there now...

vlc can do ftp streaming. but it seems in most cases people would use dropbox/box as more of a universally accessible repository than to push/pull stuff anyways.

actually, i'd prefer the sync'ing push pull whatever over just a repository. if i just wanted a repository i could just carry a flash drive around with me all the time.

there's nothing like editing documents on the go. that's one reason why i'm thinking about getting box because i can't upload from my playbook.

yes but in a repository there's nothing stopping you from editing the document on the ftp server it self.

that's true i guess. but one huge advantage to dropbox (for me at least) is that i can view/edit the files on there without an internet connection, because i'm not accessing them on a different server but they're actually sitting in my harddrive. it may seem like not much, but it actually saved my skin a couple times because i've accidentally deleted files that i need (or wrote over them) and all i had to do was run to another computer, disconnect its internet connection, and retrieve the file from there.

i guess i should be more careful, and there's probably other ways for me to retrieve that lost data, but it's nice to know that i can still work on stuff even when i'm not connected.

but those files are pushed onto my computer (actually not with my phone/tablet though), without me having to go and select it and download it. if i find myself without internet, i can still work on something or view something that i just thought of then and there.

ahh.. i see what you mean.. but yea, push and pull is something that's a good thing to have... box doesn't push/pull unless you have a pay acct but i don't really need it to push/pull anyways.. i don't really do much with documents anyways... but i suppose your line of work makes better use of push/pull

yeah, but the bad thing about that is that there's no dropbox app for playbook. there's a "bluebox" app, with which i can download from my dropbox, but i can't upload. so if i edit something on my playbook i can't get it back into dropbox unless i transfer it to my phone and do it from there.

there is, however, a box app, which allows me to download and upload. but knowing that it doesn't have the push/pull i might just stick with dropbox.

if you had a decent data plan, you could just d/l and u/l as you please if you were out...

i do d/l and u/l as i please when i'm out. documents are tiny. that's not the problem.
