i guess so. not many people say "laugh it up fuzzball". but a lot of people say "noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo" but they leave out the "it's not true! that's impossible! i'll never join you!", but i think we all know what they're referring to.

but a lot more... heck i was trying to think of something else that's iconic about lotr and there are tons more iconic references in regards to star wars than lotr...

Aren't these just examples of each movie's popularity? I don't think popularity equates to epicness necessarily.

Star Wars is definitely more "classic" and popular, if you want to go by that standard. I mean, just look at all the spoofs that it's generated, like Space Balls.

Oh, and if we're going by epicness, I think LOTR would win because of all the work that went into making the movie.

Ground breaking stuff (relative to each movie's era) in the movies would be a good way to judge epicness.

Star Wars had the cool effects like the lightsabers and sound effects. I think George Lucas won tons of awards for the sound effects.

LOTR spents like 5 years creating actual castles and villages to get that "old" look to film scenes instead of using CG.

IMO, LOTR wins because of how intricately its universe was dEPICted. This may be because the book came first.

i don't know how long star wars spent on making the models and stuff, but i've seen pictures of the death star battle and that model was HUGE. also, i'd imagine making a puppet jabba the hut was no easy task too.
