duncan likes fingering dudes i guess.

a lot of people don't know the rules of the road, and are unaware of other cars. i find that a lot with people riding your blind spots and not knowing the proper stop sign rules.

one thing that happened today didn't really bother me as it wasn't my problem but it's annoying just the same. some girl stopped at the light at smith and moscrop and she was turning left, but instead of staying near the yellow center line she stopped very much in the middle of the street. another car came up behind us and wanted to turn right and he had to squeeze the hell up against the curb to get around her puny corolla. and when the light turned green finally she veered a little TO THE RIGHT before making her left turn. it's not a tight turn by any means, there was no reason for her to veer right.

she was going the same way i was (down moscrop and right up patterson), and apparently she does that for every turn. oh, and she also likes to slam on her brakes on the turns too. actually, not ON the turn, but near the end of the turn.

I heard that some driving instructors teach their students to swerve the opposite direction of where they're turning. It's supposed to be some sort of defensive driving technique.

It's lame if driving instructors are really teaching their students this.

the chinese ones probably are. they also teach you to turn your wheel by shuffling your hands together and apart. that way your hand never leaves the wheel. that's safer, yo.

The shuffling hands thing really is a safety thing... it's just not a very realistic way of driving.

Dunno about you but if I kept both hands on the wheel at all times I'd be stuck in 1st gear all the time.

But... I guess since speed really does kill, it would be a safer.

half the people that annoy us on the road aren't "doing anything wrong". just because they're following the rules doesn't mean that they're aware of their surroundings.

i failed to mention that when she was veering to the right, the car turning right was still on her right.

When it's about driving, we should be considering more than just "not doing anything wrong". Like Nathan's been saying, road awareness will help us prevent accidents from other people doing something wrong.

Stuff like keeping your distance from the car in front of you isn't meant to keep yourself from doing something wrong. It's so IF the car in front of you does something wrong, then it'll be less likely you're caught up in an accident because of it.

I'd rather be alive and let others be in the wrong rather than be dead and in the right.

it's like ben's huge accident years ago. he was turning left, the light turned yellow so without regard of the CAR SPEEDING INTO THE INTERSECTION, he took his right of way and turned with 4 other guys in the car. needless to say he was t-boned and the car was totalled but who was at fault? by the definition of the law it was the other lady who was speeding into the intersection but the accident was totally avoidable with an ounce of due care and attention.

but ben "didn't do anything wrong" since the light was yellow.

That's why I get a little po'd at people who honk at me for not making a right turn on a red light in certain situations. Too many people run lights and change lanes in the middle of intersections. I guess that's another peave of mine.
