it's a shame because i thought bad boys (the first one), the rock, armageddon etc weren't bad, so i thought the tf series might have a chance.

Michael Bay does pump out some good movies. His Transformers movies are good in their own right... I'm sure for people who didn't follow Transformers back in the day, these movies would be pretty good. It's got good action, good effects, hot chicks and comic moments. Perfect recipe for a blockbuster.

Just because the movies bastardized the original story, doesn't make the movie a flop.

I think we talked about this in another thread somewhere too, but, there are not very many movie adaptations of books/TV series/comics that turn out in a way that appeases purist fans.

Just look at the Harry Potter and LoTR movies... fairly well made movies, but to purist fans they did nothing but disappoint. They changed this, they didn't say that, they cut this out, he was supposed to be taller, not as big as imagined, etc etc.

yea i think that's the issue here.. it's hard to make an adaptation film that appeals to the masses... fanboys like yourselves hate the tf series, but it's the masses that make the money for them and that's the driving force in these movies. They may piss u off, but i'm sure they don't care that you're pissed off if there are 10,000 non tf fans who like the movie for every 1 tf fanboy loathing it... and hey, you still paid to watch it didn't you? lol

one of the few adaptation movies i can think of in the recent past that did a good job appealing to non fanboys and fanboys alike was the star trek movie... it was pretty well done and both trekkers and non trekkers generally liked it...

but yea, that's why they pump out all these comic book or what not movies because it draws fanboys in (for the first one), and the general public as well because it's considered a block buster

i totally disagree with what you guys are saying. i mentioned this in another thread, but the main reason why i didn't like the tf movies is the same as why i don't like all the movies i don't like, they were awful. look at what the critics say about them (who aren't tf fans), and they all agree. the script was retarded, the acting was horrendous and the effects made it impossible to even understand what was going on. to this day i don't think i'd be able to tell starscream and megatron apart, let alone the plethora of other characters that have no distinguishing features besides bumblebee and his mute ass and yellow jumpsuit. the cinematography was awful too, in that it moved around so fast that as soon as you recognise someone they're not even on the screen anymore.

to me, they made the movie for the sake of making a movie. it felt like there was no time put into making it a good movie.

if they did a good job in making the movie, i wouldn't have a problem if they messed up the story line or even how the characters looked. the new batman's don't really follow the batman timeline, and i don't have a problem with it because they were very well done. the same goes for spiderman 2 and x-men 1 and 2. they weren't exactly true to the comics, but it was ok because they were still able to provide a good movie. transformers, however, was plain retarded and i didn't find any of the comic scenes to be funny at all. again, it was like they didn't put any effort into it at all.

I didn't say it was a horrible movie. I was saying your purist criticisms definitely doesn't help earn any points for you for this movie. I'm saying this by what you were saying about the movie. You do nitpick at the details and compare to the original movies/series.

Anyway, as horrible as the TF movies are, some people must like it, or else they wouldn't be making tons of money and pumping out so many sequels.

Also, big money maker action movies rarely ever get good reviews from critics.

i know you didn't say it was a horrible movie. i did. because it was.

and just because a movie does well in the box office, that doesn't mean that it has any redeeming qualities. it just means that it was advertised well and it attracted the masses by projecting a "need" to watch it. people listen to the almighty media too much to tell them what is good and what isn't (when was the last time you stayed away from a generic brand product in favour of a national brand in thinking that the national brand must be better?).

case in point are those tickle-me-elmo's. boringest toy ever and people were killing each other and themselves to get one back in the day.

When I first saw tf1 I liked it... or at least I thought I liked it. I wanted to like it. But when I tried watching it a second time, I realized just how much it annoyed me. It annoyed me so much that I didn't bother seeing 2 or 3, and I don't feel I missed much.

These movies just aren't made with me in mind anymore. I'm not their target audience. I'm not a 13 year old boy anymore and I don't have ADD.

So why are these movies so successful? 'Cause that's all that there is. This is all that Hollywood has to offer and we want to watch a blockbuster action movie.

i think this mentality of "bigger is better" in movies around the year 2000 when terminator 3, bad boys 2, and a bunch of other "let's make huge explosions with zero plot and people will pay to watch it" movies came out. i'm not a fan of these kinds of movies, and i feel that transformers is one of them (or 3 of them, as it were).
