Tensions in Hong Kong due to China immigrants

Some interesting drama happening in HK lately surrounding immigrants from China.

First, there was the D&G store in HK that prohibited Hong Kong residents from taking pictures in front of the store. That policy included HK people only. People from China were allowed to take pictures. The reason being, the store didn't think HK residents had enough money to buy D&G clothing, but people from China did.

This went viral in HK, and they staged a "take a picture in front of D&G" rally where hundreds of HK people went to the D&G store to take pictures there every day.

Then there was the incident where a HK man told a mainland Chinese women that eating on the transit is not allowed (her daughter was eating). The girl stopped, but the woman and her friends then started to make fun of the man's mandarin saying that he can't speak it properly, etc etc.

This went viral too, and there are now two groups. One group of Chinese people wanted to stage a protest where they would all go to the transit to eat at the same time. The other group of Hong Kong people are now out exposing how "dirty and unrefined" the mainland Chinese people are by taking pictures of them defecating in public, throwing garbage everywhere, etc.

i understand the picture protest, but i don't understand the shouting match for mainlanders eating on the MTR. That rule is to keep the MTR clean. Most public transits around the world have the same rule! Heck, even our public transit has no eating signs on buses and skytrains.

hong kong people have their kids pooping and peeing on the street too. it depends on what part of hk you're in, just like in vancouver.

I was talking to Daffy about that... I asked her how they know the people in those pics are from China and not HK. She got very insistent that HK people would never do something like that. A majority of the HK people would agree too, or else this wouldn't be that big of an issue.

Yeah... D&G made a policy that HK people aren't allowed to take pictures in front of their store. Specifically HK people.

In protest of this, the HK people got together en masse to take pictures in front of the D&G store, as seen in that picture above.

oh.. I think I know where the confusion is... the D&G picture thing and the poop thing are 2 separate issues. The D&G picture thing was the D&G store being prejudiced against HK people and they favoured China people.

The eating on transit and poop thing is separate.

Tourists should abide by the law and customs of the country they are visiting. HK ppl should have a flash mob going to the mainland somewhere and take a dump.
