even warp drive technology involves the manipulation ("warping" or folding if you want to call it) of space/distance. all faster-than-light travel does.

does it? i thought it had to do with the manipulation of matter, not space/time. hence, the static warp bubble that allows warp speed.

warp bubble insulates the ship in normal space. while the bubble enters and travels in "subspace"

yeah, that's sorta what i meant about them changing matter (or i guess more like allowing matter to stay the same but changing the properties of matter so it can go that fast). i didn't know that warp was in subspace though.

either case, that doesn't change my explanation of the differences between a transwarp conduit and a wormhole.

don't know if the warp bubble is in subspace, so much as it interacts with it... subspace is sort of a vague term, in that i think the most we know about it in the ST universe is that it doesn't obey the laws of physical space. since matter can never reach the speed of light in "normal" space.

sometimes subspace is referred to as a different "plane" of space. i think the original intent of warp drive (ToS era) was that the drive actually warped the space around the craft pulling the space as it traveled through which correlates to the various images that are often related to the warp bubble. you could even say the ship is stationary while space is moving around it...

i don't really understand the argument, though, sure there are differences and there are also similarities.

my understanding was that the warp bubble "tricked" space into thinking that whatever was inside the bubble was of a different physical composure than it really is. from what i know of physics, for a physical object to go that fast, it'd have to be so fat that it'd be impossible to move that fast. so in order to do it, the warp bubble makes regular space "think" that the ship is either that fat or that light that it can go faster than light. however, your explanation of the ship standing still while space is moving around it is pretty good too.

actually, i didn't google any warp stuff. i thought i understood it enough from watching the shows. but i did try to google my wormhole vs transwarp conduit explanation, but there isn't much stuff it seems.

what i did find though is that "transwarp" is a pretty loose term. it's been used and misused often, and so it's proper definition of the actual term is a bit cloudy. however, if we're talking transwarp conduit, that seems pretty clear.

Yeah, transwarp seems to mean any technology faster than warp.
