there are also private torrent sites that you can pay for. They work just as well if you can find a good site. The torrent is privately hosted by the paid members so the tracking companies can't track you. Well, unless you pay to those sites too haha

neither newsgroups or private torrents are completely safe either.

as dunc pointed out a company can easily pay the same subscription fee that you do, which for them would be a drop in the bucket anyways and get the exact same information a public torrent site would provide.

newsgroups are a bit trickier as only the server has your ip address/info, but there is still a trail that eventually leads to you.

but these tracking companies can figure out the ip addresses for the newsgroup servers, and ask ISPs for the accounts that connect to those newsgroup ip addresses and what files were requested...

it's sort of like contraception, the only completely sure why is to abstain.

you know some of these shows you can stream online for free from the channel's website? i know ctv and global stream their shows off their site but you have commercials inserted, but hey, who cares?

homeland is on hbo i think. and most sites i find to stream shows only work in the states.

ctv and global are canadian so they work fine for us here... they show most of the decent shows... but yea, shows on nbc or fox or whatever, no dice

Ahhhhhhhh!!! They shut down one of the major newsgroup indexing sites!
Newsgroups are still up, but without the indexing site, it makes it so much harder to find stuff..... erggg
