I dunno.. it's still not definitive. You can explain the "one of our own" as a human going against humanity. You can explain the uniform as either espionage or like I said, he was given a uniform, like Khan was in the original series. (in the Wrath of Khan, he was wearing a Starfleet buckle on a necklace).
Gary Mitchell and Kirk weren't childhood friends. They met at the academy in the original timeline, but since Kirk never went to the academy in this timeline and jumped straight to Captain rank (that was lame, btw), that means they never met. Mitchell had slight powers from birth, but his real powers came about from his travels with Kirk, and it was through those travels that that incident with the galactic barrier gave Mitchell his super powers and him and Kirk went postal on each other.
I actually hope it's not Gary Mitchell because the whole superpower thing really seems lame to me... too comic-bookish
