Why not? Whatever he was assigned to do was getting done. Everyone outsources these days. Like BC Place, the contractor who won the bid for the new roof outsourced it to another company in Europe. Doesn't Boeing outsource to China and Mexico as well? Why can't you do it with IT work? As long as the person or company doing the outsource work isn't stealing anything, it should be perfectly fine.

The employee can be a contractor, which in theory means he's working for himself.

Ppl at Microsoft and i'm sure at other corps do it all the time. The manager hires a contractor to do all the work and takes all the credit. See no difference in what this guy did except he contracted it overseas.

well, if you're a contractor, then it's almost like you're your own company so you can complete the job as you see fit. I'm talking about a salaried employee, not a contracted employee which i assume the dude in the article was since they said he had a 6 figure salary.

I'm saying there are currently lots of salaried employees hiring contractors to do their jobs, so i see no difference in what he is doing.

when i said "that's different", i meant that it's not acceptable to have a salaried employee to contract out their own work as opposed to it being accepted that a contractor may sub contract out work. Yes, there's no difference between other lazy salaried employees who contract out their own work and the the guy in the article but what we're saying is that it's unacceptable. Especially for this dude who worked in "critical infrastructure" in the states, there are privacy and security issues.

Really, i know of salaried workers hiring other ppl to write and reply emails for them, to come up with schedules and suggestions, and taking for credit for it. The only difference is this guy got caught.

just because people do it doesn't make it ok. it's clearly deceptive as this guy got in trouble for it. it's like if a student were to get someone else to write their papers for them, or even just copy a paper from someone else. deceptively taking someone else's work and saying that it's your work is plagiarism. in the case of contractors and the like, i would imagine such practice was common and therefore almost expected.

it's still deceitful though. had he been open about it, maybe it could have been a different story, i don't know. but i think the big issue was that he was lying about it and making his employers look like fools.
