As I understand it, because 'tomorrow' never comes. If 'tomorrow' isn't part of your language, then tomorrow becomes now. So, instead of waiting until tomorrow to start looking after yourself and saving for the future, you live every minute of your day that way.

i haven't watch the video, but based on the posts, it reminds me of a recent conversation i had with john shim. about the cultural difference in respect to urgency and complacency between north american culture and certain other cultures in the east.

It's more west coast style, take our sweet ass time, where as the East coast or Asia, it's like ppl are rushing to put out fires.

i think my experience of north america (not just the west coast) is much more laid back than any part of asia that i've been to (which aren't many). i guess with a developed sense of urgency people tend to look to the future more and prepare for it?

i'm reminded of a quote from fight club:
