Has anyone been downtown yet to check out some of the free stuff? We're planning on taking Hayden and going to check out the free stuff, but I want to know about line ups, security, traffic, crowds, etc., cause knowing Hayden, she'll want to walk and out of her stroller. Is there a line up to get into all the pavilions?

this is what i heard from my sister's friend who has been a large event planner for years:
go near the beginning when the events are starting off because everyone is thinking that the crowds would be nuts. it's the second week when people realise that the crowds aren't so bad and then they all go.

how much truth to this, i don't know. personally, i think if the first week isn't as crowded, we're probably still talking about 200,000 people as opposed to 500,000 the second week.

Went down there right after the ceremonies ended. Was a gong show of drunken people all over the place, no violence but it was PACKED. Probably wouldn't take Hayden there during the night and definitely not on granville street at night. Free events were like all packed and crowded with people everywhere. Not sure how it will be on other nights though, I assume things will simmer down a bit.

Yea, we weren't planning on going at night. We were thinking of going early in the morning and leave after lunch.

Not sure if we can go during the first week because Duncan hasn't talked to his manager yet about taking a day off. And next weekend we're busy, so we can't go then either.

isn't duncan working downtown for training or something the next couple weeks? why not just meet him down there after work?
we might be going monday during the day. if we can't make it then or if the weather's bad, then maybe friday.

winnie and i went downtown with ben yesterday. it was during the day on a weekday, but it was still pretty packed. i have a feeling a lot of people took time off for the olympics.

the flame at waterfront is nothing special, it looks exactly like on tv. actually, it looks worse because seeing it in person you have to deal with the crowds getting in the way of your camera and that fence that keeps you about 12 parsecs away from it.

we walked up to robson square, the zipline is gay, you wait 5-6 hours to ride a cable across the street. seriously, it just goes across the street. i thought it'd be longer.

we walked down robson and didn't get to see much. i guess when you have a baby in a gigantic stroller (we took the bob) it's not as fun trying to maneuver through the crowds.
