along the lines with haircuts...

Postby nature boy » Sun Nov 21, 2010 1:49 pm

since the other thread got locked i have to start a new one...

what hair products do you use and why? it's been a while since i had to sculpt my hair in any way so i'm a little out of it.
i remember in high school i used to use alberto mousse, but i noticed while at shoppers that it doesn't sell all that great, making me think that it sucks now.

in the past i've also used ag gel, which was super expensive but nice because it didn't leave those weird dusty flakes. but it was hard to use the right amount without the hair getting too hard.

i've recently used pantene mousse, but i didn't really like how it made my hair feel. now (at the advice of a hot chick), i'm using ag stucco (?) which apparently is supposed to be applied to dry hair. it's a little waxier than i would want, but it seems to have a good hold without too much of a female smell to it.

what do you nerds use?

I use it so i don't look like a bum.

People nowadays use wax, putty or clay. Its the hip thing. Gel or mousse if you want a super strong hold.

I use Axe Messy Look paste. Kinda gives it a strong gel look if you use it with water, gives you a nice messy look when you use it on dry hair. Bad part is it smells like axe.

Yup, any sort of hair product (paste, wax, etc.) that isn't gel or mousse will suffice today.

I just go for what is on sale and doesn't smell funky. Using Garnier Fructis at the moment, used to use L'oreal before. Almost out of the Garnier now, so whatever is on sale at superstore or shoppers will get bought.

doesn't the wax give you a... waxy feel?
the stucco stuff i'm using now does, i don't like it. and i especially don't think the ladies would either when they're running their fingers through my now luxurious hair.

I've only used wax once and it is definitely gummy/waxy feeling.

Try a pomade or paste as those are generally better in terms of your hair feeling natural. All product to some degree will leave your hair feeling different, it also depends on the amount you're using. If your hair is short you really don't need a lot of product in it.

i use loreal studio remix? or something like that... told gordon about it... i think he's using it now too... it's a paste... does the job. I don't like wax because it takes like 4 shampoo scrubbings to get my hair feeling like there isn't any wax in there... paste is better because it washes out like gel but gives me the natural w/o gel wet look...

if you want gel, i have a huge tub of dippy doo gel that i bought and never used that you can have for free...
i really should be working

haha, it's dippity doo, and that's like the worst gel out there. the WORST (but also the cheapest).

i think i tried that l'oreal stuff once before too, but i don't think i liked it too much because i don't have it anymore.

There's two different kinds of that L'oreal remix putty, one is definitely better than the other though I can't remember which one is which since I just rotate to a new product once I finish one.

are you sure it's not just new packaging? iirc from my days at shoppers there's only one.

No there were two different kinds.

One has stiffer hold and the other is for more natural holds, so depending on how you want to style your hair they do things differently.

l'oreal out of bed putty thing is what i have been using... but i put product in my hair maybe like 6 times a year...

it's ok... kinda smells a bit funny.. keeps your hair more natural looking, but i think with basically all product, you can still tell a difference if you run your hand through it.

actually when i was using the ag ice gel or something it was pretty good in that you could run your hand through it and it felt normal.
but you'd lose all the "crunchiness" of course.

Don't wash your hair for a week and it'll be crunchy.
