The Roast Pig cometh, and we eateth…

Most Chinese families celebrate the birth of their child with a huge banquet right on the one month anniversary of the child’s birth date.  This is because a good set of Chinese parents would never even think about taking their newborn out of the protective environment of their home and into the horrific jungle that is the rest of the world until after the first 30 days.  We waited exactly 4 days. Coleen had a hankering for Shanghainese food.  We are bad Chinese parents…. but I digress.  We decided early on that a ‘One month’ banquet would not be feasible as there were already a lot of other events like birthdays and weddings that were on everyone else’s social calendar.  But being a family that never passes up an opportunity to have a whole lot of friends over to stuff ourselves silly, we decided to host a Big ‘2 Month’ shindig for our little bundle of cry/poo/pee.  We were both a little tired of the usual fare (Chinese 10 course banquet), so we totally ripped off an idea from our friends Joel and Joyce and decided to host a catered BBQ instead.  And by BBQ, I mean a real Southern Style BBQ.
