One of the great benefits of heading over to Halifax every other year is its proximity to “The city that never sleeps”. So, seeing as how we were out there anyways, the side trip was a foregone conclusion.
Planning an agenda for NYC is never hard. In fact, it’s always the same; Serious Shopping, Great Eating, Amazing Shows, Rinse and Repeat. This trip was no different. This would be our fourth time visiting the Big Apple, but the first time during winter…. more importantly though, the first time during the NHL season!!! Pete scored us two pairs of tickets to the Canucks’ game at the storied Madison Square Garden. Four tickets which he absent-mindedly left on his desk back home in Nova Scotia. Never-the-less, we made it in and promptly witnessed our team get shut out by the much hated Rangers. Despite the loss, we still had a blast and met a lot of cool Canucks & Rangers fans on our very first night there. It was an awesome start to an awesome trip.
Our choice of fine dining in Manhattan this time around was Restaurant Daniel. Those of you who know us well, know that we loooooooooooooove great food. Lucky for us, Win and Pete share this passion of ours. We’ve had the good fortune of having dined at a few Michelin three star establishments in the past, but there was a much greater anticipation this time around. Our friend Shao and his sister went to Restaurant Daniel last year and came back with RAVING reviews. If there was any one of our friends whose palate I most agree with, I would have to say that it would be Shao’s. Even with the heightened expectations, Daniel did not disappoint. In fact, we even got to see Mr. Boulud in person. A truly exceptional dining experience. Very highly recommended if you’re planning a trip out east.

The trip was only four days, but it was long enough as it was the first time that we had ever been away from Reagan for more than 3 hours. But by the time we hit JFK for our flight back, it was obvious that we were all missing our children and couldn’t wait to get back to all of them. Thanks again mom for looking after all the grandkids during our little getaway.
