so the playbook can run android apps. now there is no reason not to get one. except money. oh and that darn fact that everyone loves apple.

A Playbook is useless right now unless you own an OS6+ BB though.....

Hardly smart to rush out a product before it's ready.... oh wait, RIM didn't want to be embarrassed AGAIN about having their "newest top of the line hardware being outdated by the time it actually hit the shelves"

i wouldn't say useless (maybe because i do have a bb with os6). they actually said that they took their launch tip from apple, send it out before it's fully ready (having to jailbreak the original iphone, no cut and paste, no multitasking, etc). if i had a playbook i doubt i'd want to pay for 3g as well.

being able to run rim apps and android apps is a big plus, not to mention that it's packed with power and the ui (at least what i've seen on videos) looks pretty freaking awesome.

i think i'd rather have a smaller tablet (not just playbook, the moto xoom and samsung tab are similar size) than a honking ipad. to me it almost defeats the purpose of having a portable tablet.

and unfortunately rim is looking pretty grim. i fear for the future of blackberry and support for it.

haha, that's why i keep saying bb sucks... nothing against it personally i suppose, but they always seem to be behind the innovative ball ever since probably the first iphone came out. Too bad too, because RIM is canadian

actually, no, rim wasn't behind the innovative ball. where do you think apple got all their ideas from?
there was an article that came out a couple days ago about this very thing. everyone now looks at apple and android and think that they're all that and a bag of chips, but they fail to realise that all they did was copy what other companies were doing (rim, palm, nokia) and tweaked it a little bit and marketed a LOT. that's not innovation, that's just imitation and marketing.

having said that, everyone (or at least rim fans) has been looking at rim hoping that they'll come up with the next greatest thing to keep them afloat, but this article was saying that they don't have to, they can just wait for apple or google to do something great and then capitalize on that by redoing it but better (which a lot of developers are saying that they did with the playbook).

however, in my opinion they may be a little too late for that. it's too bad too, because in terms of operating systems and hardware i really believe that blackberries trump the competition out there. especially since they're basically the only ones that does what they should do: be a smartphone. unfortunately too many people gravitate toward an all-in-one device, where fun and games supersede productivity and communication.

i think what you call "tweeking" is somewhat understating the fact that iphone provided the first fully integrated touch screen smartphone of its kind. Now who's the copy cat when all other smart phone companies are flagshipping their purely touchscreen smartphones? the trend is going more and more the direction of touch screens and the bb tactile keyb that they're known for just isn't cutting it. I'm sure there are tons of purists who say that the keyb > touchscreen, but the proof is in the sales pudding.

That's just one example of how RIM fell behind the ball. Considering it took them this long to release a tablet, that's another example of how they fell behind the ball.

That being said, even if RIM was copied by all the other companies, innovation doesn't stop at who got there first. Innovation continues, and improvement on products counts too. Hey, the chinese figured out gun powder, but the americans made the gatling gun.
