speaking of email, i can't switch my accounts to imap on the fly, right? i have to delete them and put them back in, right?

No.. imap will only work for you emails moving forward, so you would need to delete the POP account on the server first. That being said, there's nothing to stop you from creating the new IMAP account with the same email address and then dragging all your old saved email from your POP client, into the IMAP account.
