clear fogs or yellow fogs

Postby nature boy » Wed Nov 23, 2011 10:35 am

i've recently put in yellow bulbs for my fog lights. looking at the lights themselves you can't tell they're yellow. but when it gets dark man alive the light on the road is yellow (but still looking at the bulbs still don't look all that yellow).

i know that yellow is supposed to be more safe because of the light temp, but i'm still torn on how it looks. too jdm for a european car? (although, it was the europeans that started the whole yellow light thing).

I find that my Philips All Weather vision bulbs is the perfect compromise for the Yellow/White balance in my fog housings.

I don't see how yellow fogs is a JDM thing... I've seen tons of euro and domestics running yellow fogs.

I want yellow fogs too, but could never find bulbs with the yellow colour I want. I'd probably have to do yellow HID's for my fogs to get the look I want.

do you actually need fogs with hid's though?

my experience with philips bulbs is that they burn out freaking fast. if i had hid's, i'd get hid fogs too actually.

HID Fog's are too bright to do their job properly. Your light dispersion in actual fog would just make everything one giant blob of yellow. I was looking at either the Philips all weather (yellowish) or the PIAA Ion Plasma (Grammar Police Yellow/Gold) at the time. Ignoring the price difference, I just felt there was better visibility with the Philips. That was 8 years ago, and I haven't had to change out my bulbs yet.

i hear the piaa ion plasma aren't worth the money. reviews say the $20 nokya yellow shine better/brighter than the piaa. i got my nokya's for $10 lol.

i heard good things about the philips all weather too, i was thinking about using them for my main beam, but i decided against it because the pics i saw didn't do anything for me.

I find halogen fogs don't match well with HID main beams. Safety first though, I guess.

there are hid projector lenses for your fogs, which aim lower to light up the road. i don't see how that would make everything a blob of yellow.

oh no, i'd never put an hid bulb in a non-hid projector housing. i was pretty close to getting a deal on projector fog housing for my car, but i thought it'd look stupid to have hid fogs but halogen mains.

Yeah, sorry.. I was talking about projector housings too. I haven't bought HID for my car yet because I can't find projector housing for it.

Anyway - isn't it illegal to put HID in non-projector housing?

it's illegal, but you'll never get pulled over for it. unless you're getting pulled over for something else and you piss the cop off, you might get a vi, but that's probably the only time a cop would say something about it.

even still, i'd never do it. it ruins light output, blinds oncoming traffic, and looks like ass.

lol, if i remember correctly you asked me once if you should put hid's in your stock housings.

speaking of which, there's a guy selling cheap ecodes for your car. the light output would be enhanced quite a bit using the stock bulbs. use some aftermarket bulbs and wham-o, nice cheap alternative to actual hid's, and they'll look stock.
