I think the series would need to say something. It would have to take a stand. There would have to be an underlying theme to it. TOS was about the war against communism, racism, etc. TNG was about postmodernism and how we view things so much differently than they did in the 60s.

The other series just seemed all about entertainment and hence, no staying power.

It would be great to have a new series, but only if it was good.

i think shaun's on to something. it needs to have that satirical humour that seems to be lost in this day and age of "bigger explosions are better" type of entertainment. it's what makes classics classic.

haha.. they could tackle gay rights... seems like the way things are going, no tv show is complete without a message about gay rights... it's the new trendy thing... gone are the days where a token black guy on your show could give you a "i'm not a bigot" type feel. Gotta have the gays on the show...

Yup, it was so awkward. It's like they were trying to subtly talk about pollution, but they ended up being painfully obvious about it.
