power and influence

so i'm doing some research on powerful people for my sermon this sunday, and i came across forbes' list for the 50 most powerful people in the world list from last year. this is it:

i wasn't at all surprised to see so many politicians and religious leaders on there, but what really surprised me is that mark freaking zuckerburg scored #9. wth mang, is power just thrown around these days? the guy runs a website.

anyway, what are your thoughts on power? how is it defined? why is it so intoxicating? these are the kinds of things that i'll be talking about on sunday.

It seems all relative to me - The guy runs a website. The guy runs a church. The guy runs a country.

Have you ever seen that video about social media? The one where it says something about the number of Facebook users outnumbers the population of some countries. Sure he runs a website, but what is that website's scope of influence? Facebook seems to affect a lot of people worldwide and plays a huge social role in those people's lives. Mark Auckberg can shut that site down any time which I'm sure will cause an uproar that would be heard worldwide... so yeah, I'd call that power.

there are 4 criteria that forbes rated each person, and it's the reason why he scored so high. i was just curious as to how we express our thirst for power. i find that it's mostly either in trying to impress or intimidate.
