Gary Mitchell is super powerful to the point where he's almost god-like... kinda like Q. The teaser shows a superior human being, but not god-like. Plus, if you're going by story timeline, Gary Mitchell shouldn't have any beef with Starfleet at this point in time either.

but my point is that he knows kirk as a young guy. if there were time travel involved, it would make more sense for gary mitchell to travel back, not khan.

and from that article that jai posted, it sounds like he had beef with kirk already (tried to distract his teaching with a hot chick).

however, that's not to say that it isn't khan. i'm just saying it'd make more sense if it were gary mitchell.

I dunno, doesn't really make sense to me either way from a story point of view.. It's just that from the teaser, he didn't look like a transcendent being.

Besides, Gary Mitchell isn't a well known character.. Khan would be a better choice of villain from a marketing perspective. It's the infamous "Khaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!"

it'd be hilarious if it's just a new villain and all this talk is just meaningless.

Khan has always been a bad guy, so I don't think he needs time travel.
Gary wasn't always a bad guy.. in fact, he was actually relatively normal in his younger years. I don't even really see any motive for Gary Mitchell to hate Starfleet at that point in time.

but khan would have been frozen. and from what i understand he wasn't a bad guy until he was screwed by kirk.

Khan would have been frozen until the Enterprise and Kirk find him and his crew. This time, however, Khan succeeds in taking control of the Enterprise and ...

That's just one possibility. Who knows? I don't see a need for time travel.

oh, i thought khan was bred to be good, but just turned bad.
and i guess that's a plausible explanation too. but what are the chances that in two alt universes khan encounters the enterprise at two different time periods?

i guess if it were totally up to me, i'd choose a new unique villain instead of another rehashed villain.
