market rules -
dealing players out face down cards that can be sold at different values, i think it would have worked better for the 12-25 if had said you couldn't buy after choosing to freeze yourself. maybe you should still get passes so you can go back and forth.

also, it may make it worthwhile to limit cards even less. 4 cards per player??

i will try calling it again, with some tweaks, no max limit and 1$ minimums on card sales.

maybe unsold cards should count towards your value too?

How about if you charge players for taking face down cards to sell? That way, money goes to the pot plus it will (hopefully) limit the number of cards a person takes for resale.

You can charge two amounts.. For example, it costs $0.50 to take a face down resale card, and $1 to take a face up resaleable card. Costs more for face up because it's easier to sell a face up card.

I didn't want cards face up because it would make it to easy for players to buy exactly what they needed.

The cards you buy, you can designate as either a plus or a subtract card... so you can buy an infinite amount of unknown cards without going over and if you have enough money, you might eventually hit.

is this an entirely different game that i don't know about?

we played it with 12/25 (in honor of dunc's bday), an alternate version of the standard 7/27

How about a straight 10 / -10 game split pot? Black = positive Red = Negative. That way anyone with a black and a red ace and equivalent offsetting black and red cards could go for both. 7/27 style.. should be interesting as the chances of actually hitting are pretty slim.
