NHL Fantasy Pool Value

Postby joel » Wed Dec 16, 2009 9:48 am

I am starting this thread to start a discussion on a hockey players value with other hockey pool GMs out there.

Let's start with:
Rich Peverly

He looks like the real deal. On pace for 79pts this season. I think he'll finish with around 70-75pts this year. But he looks like he could challenge for ppg for the next 3-4 seasons, especially if he finds himself with some more talented linemates. So far in Atlanta he has amassed 65 pts in 70 games. And he's gotten a majority of those points not playing with Kovalchuk. I have heard he is a speedster, but I have never watched him play.

have to be honest here saying that i didn't think much of this guy in the offseason. i'm still not totally sold, but proof is in the pudding...
don't think anybody ended up drafting him, but at this rate he will go in the 1st round next year.

I'll take him. Old guys that nobody wants! He'll be around in the waivers this year. I considered him last year, but when Sutter and McDonough came up, had to take those guys. Plus I wanted Carter Ashton too. Need some youth.

Really depends on Kovalchuk. If he resigns, then he will get a sniff. Afinogenov is only a 1 year deal, I think. Peverley - Antropov tandam doesn't strike fear in other team's eyes.

he was on my radar too.. but since he only played part of the season with atl, i wasn't sold either... that and i needed to replenish the youth on my team...

i think he'll go in the 1st round as well..

what about brooks laich? the guy puts up pretty decent numbers for playing 2nd line mins too... and they use him as the body in front of the net on the pp...
i really should be working

i don't think peverley is that old...
brooks liach i would have taken in the waivers if burrows wasn't around.

yea, i think peverly and laich are both only in their mid 20's...

peverly is listed at 5'9 as well so that might've been why no one drafted him...

also, what do you guys think of niemi? real deal? i have a feeling he'll be next year's hiller

Laich:
I think his peak potential is 65pts. And that he could certainly reach it playing with this team. I was a little concerned when WAS picked up Knuble as he could easily replace his role in that lineup. But it seems to not have slowed him. He is certainly benefitting from the talent he plays with. He may be worth a flyer and is a decent depth player.

still not sold on niemi either. hard to say whether he can start a full season in the nhl or can win many games without a crazy stacked team in front of him.
though with chicago's cap troubles, he'll get every opportunity as soon as they can get huet off the books.

Neimi:
His record to date is 6-1-1 (3 SO). 3 Shutouts in 8 games. And looking past his individual stats. Who would not want the starting goaltender for the Chicago Blackhacks. A team that will be competing for the President's trophy for the next 5 years to come. He may not be a starter this year but given that the most games Huet has ever played in a season is a whooping 52 games. By season's end we will see who chicago rides down the stretch and into the playoffs. Huet just does not have the durability. Easily worth a 1st round pick. On this team his peak potential is of 45+ win goalie.

even if niemi isn't a bonafide starter, he's still worth a pick up... he'll still put up a good amount of wins in front of that team. kinda like putting any goalie in front of a detroit team...

i think moulson will be a late 2nd to 3rd round pick next draft... i think people are thinking that he's putting up points just because tavares is feeding him points... kinda like colby armstrong riding the crosby train...

but don't tell that to shao!! ZING

ok...maybe i'm on a totally different wavelength

Neimi's stats looks impressive, but he's a rfa and chicago is cash strapped. Huet's stupid contract makes him impossible to move, so he'll only make backup money at best and play 1/2 the games at best too. Chicago has to play Huet, so that he looks like he's worth the money so they can potentially have a remote chance of moving him. Different from Hiller b/c he's going to be a UFA at the end of this year. Don't see him moving into a No. 1 spot for awhile.

Peverley is in his late 20's if I'm not mistaken and guys close to 30 get taken way later in our draft. ie. Antropov, Burrows, etc. Heck guys in their late 20's get dropped in our draft.

Moulson is in his mid twenties. Decent stats this year, but isn't going to be in the NYI long term plans.

IMO, there's a boat load of players in the late 20's and early 30's that could get about 50-60 pts/year, which is the same as some aging stars.
