It's kind of an origins movie. I think Wolverine learned the way of the samurai in the past before he joined with X-Men. Although, the technology shown in this trailer doesn't really look like it's in the past.

it didn't seem like he was learning the way of the samurai, it looked like he was trying to run away from who he is.

You can't really tell what he was doing based on that trailer. The timeline doesn't seem like post-Xmen though.

yeah, that guy he saved said he can turn him mortal, so he went for it.
i.e. running away from himself.

i think it's post x-men because it shows a clip of him holding jean grey which leads me to believe it's after jean died.

or even knows who she is lol.

sure, but even if he knew who she is, w/o her death could mean that this could be sometime between the x-men movies and he could've gone back to x-men after this side arc... but seeing him hold a dying jean puts zero doubt that it's post x-men.

it looked like she was dying or dead to me... maybe i'll rewatch it to make sure

it could have been. i remember seeing that short scene and i just thought, dang, she really let herself go ever since she was a metamorph in love with picard.

so i saw this last night as i couldn't sleep. it is definitely post x-men as he's blaming himself for jean's death (which makes sense since he killed her) and i'm assuming leads to the new first class movie in some way.
not a bad film, but probably would make much more sense with subtitles as about 10% of it is in japanese (the tv i was watching it on didn't have a subtitle thing). i had no idea what they were talking about haha.

the main japanese chick was pretty hot. super freaking unbelievably skinny which brings her down a notch, but still pretty hot.

i had similar thoughts when i watched it over the holidays. I looked that chick up, and she actually did a lot of modelling. one of the few asian models who actually made a decent living in the uk after she left japan.

hugh jackman is starting to look old. way different from the first xmen, at least.
