so i saw this movie over the weekend as i was told (by an article) that it was a good reference point for this past week's sermon topic.


the movie effing sucked. seriously, i don't know how any of you gave it more than a 1 out of 10. the plot made zero sense and the acting sucked. if it weren't for the popularity of the books (another thing that i question after knowing what the story is about), i'd have a hard time wondering how this even made to the theatres.

and i'm being nice.

i get the "deep" meaning behind the story, but seriously, the execution of it was awful. the dumbest thing is that this tv show/game/contest/whatever was going on for 74 years or something, and NO ONE except one district thought about... i dunno... maybe TEACHING your kids how to survive so maybe you have a chance of winning? if it was the first few seasons, ok, i get it, you're not prepared. but after 2 whole generations you'd think the other districts would catch a clue and learn from the one district that wins most of the time and teach their kids that lighting a freaking fire at night would give away their position.

They were poor and uneducated themselves. If they weren't so busy trying to survive day to day, I'm sure someone would've thought of doing that.

It's like in 3rd world countries. They've had hunger issues for generations upon generations, so you would think that they would teach their kids to avoid having any children they cannot support, but yet they still manage to procreate at an exponential rate.

I don't think it's that far-fetched.

And plus, the setting for the games is different each time. You can teach your kids to make a fire one year, but maybe making a fire won't even help you in the next games.

That's assuming anyone knows how to make a fire other than with matches. It's not like they have the Internet to look up how to do that, or any other survival skills.

Well... you can still have sex with condoms. Some organizations are giving away free condoms in 3rd world countries, for the purpose of population control. I remember the previous pope made a big stink about that.

Thinking back on the books, I don't think any of them died from the weather or from starvation. They were all killed by someone else, or by some in-game element, like the fire storm or the genetically modified bees. The poor districts are even less prepared to train their kids how to fight than to make a fire.

You cant just go running around doing whatever you want. They're tightly controlled. All that district is supposed to do is mine. You see all that nice land that they can grow stuff on? You wonder why they dont just grow shit and end their starvation? They cant. illegal.

To me they seem about as apathetic towards the games as we are towards voting.
