XBone vs PS4

It looks like the gaming community has a real hate on for the new xbox right now. I think Sony's finally caught a break and will win this console war. Here are the key things everyone's been talking about

XBone
- you need to be connected online to play (for game authentication)
- Kinect camera will always be on
- cannot play used/traded/secondhand games

PS4
- does not need online connection to play
- can play used/traded/secondhand games
- $399 MSRP

Sorry, MS has clarified a few points.

You need to log into Xbox Live account at least once every 24 hours so they can check your games for license rights, or else your games will be locked.

The Kinect unit has to be always connected to the console, but the camera won't always be on.

You still can't play secondhand games. If you want to trade games with friends, you have to be Xbox Live friends with them for at least 30 days before you can do that.

yea, a lot of people seem to be saying that sony took ms to task and basically looked at what'll piss people off with XBone, and made it workable on the PS4 like the 2nd hand games and online play and pricing. The only thing that people might be irked about is that ps4 will require a PSN Plus account for online play now, but that's just $50/yr which is peanuts if you think about all the benefits.

I've always like PS over XB anyways, so i'll probably be sticking with my allegiance when it comes out.

Yeah, I've always liked the PS too, but it was really tough when the game selection was so bare.

true, but the big titles are usually released on both platforms anyways. The game selection only comes into question for me when i want to play games like halo or the like that are exclusively developed for xb

what is an x-bone?

i heard that as long as the kinect camera is connected, it is on. there is no off switch. this is because a lot of the games are going to have some sort of motion element to it, as well as the ui apparently.

it seems like ms and sony are both fighting the battle against mobile gaming, there was an article about it last week that i didn't bother reading.

They're already fighting a losing battle imho. mobile gaming is so popular because it's cheap and accessible. But that's why the PS and XB are expanding their reach into the media center space. I read somewhere that there might be an HDMI in for the XBOne so you can actually switch to watch tv by using one remote/controller instead of always having to switch inputs using the tv remote. They're basically trying to create a central home theatre solution by doing little things like that. I wouldn't be surprised if the next generation consoles after these ones have built in amps and stuff to creep further into the home theatre receiver territory.

i think all consoles try to be a home media center and have been ever since the original xbox was hacked to become a home media center haha.

yea, that's what i was saying... i was just trying to make the point that they're focusing less energy on competing with mobile gaming, and trying to focus more on expanding into the media centre space. although mobile gaming is something they're still trying to combat, i think they already know that they won't win there so might as well win elsewhere

oh, yeah i see what you mean.
i guess there's an attraction to be an "all-in-one" device, like how so many smartphones are trying to be (as you can see with apps like netflix and these insane cameras on phones).

i think it'd be more simple if consoles worked on games, phones worked on communications, and tv's worked on watching tv. no one is going to buy just one piece of technology and think that it solves all their needs. they're just going to buy a piece of technology and not use it for all it could be used for haha.

This is what i'm wondering..

There will be a lot more xbox exclusive games. The fact that you cant play second hand games on an xbox is very favorable to gaming developers. Halo is a huge reason why people were buying xbox 360s early on. (I bought it for Halo lol).

Being connected to the internet thing is not really an issue. Who doesn't have wifi nowadays?

Besides being able to play second-hand games on a PS4. What kind of competitive advantage will they gaming wise?

They probably talking a lot about being a central home theatre system because this is where they're going to pull away from the competition. Gaming will probably be on par with PS4.
