I guess they put out an official statement after so many news reports have been giving misinformation. You're not automatically at fault if you get into an accident while driving in the snow without snow tires. Fault is still determined based on situation, but if the reason is you don't have adequate tires for the weather, then that will weigh into the judgement.

i was never considering getting winter tires for the golf. i already have two sets of wheels/tires, i don't need a third.

i was however, thinking about getting it for the mazda, just because i'd feel safer with a 10+ year experienced novice behind the wheel (i'll let you decide who that is).

oh, and my mother-in-law heard of a package deal from suzuki, $900 for winter tires mounted on 15" steelies installed and balanced and taxes in... hell of a deal if you asked me (from a dealership no less).
