Magical

So Reagan woke up at 7 this morning as usual.  She was playing by herself in bed, and I as usual, went to pick her up for some family time in my bed.  Normally we play for a little bit, sharing smiles and laughs, but today was different.  I lay her down and instead she rolled to her side against me, stuck her thumb into her mouth and we cuddled.  I love my daughter, but she is not a cuddler.  In fact, all the while in my tummy, if I felt her “surface” and went to rub her lightly, she would immediately move away from my touch.  And then as a newborn, loving caresses were not all that calming for her, so imagine my surprise and elation.  It was about 5 minutes of mommy-daughter bliss, then she got the hunger pangs and the moment was over.  I though, savoured each moment and now feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

I guess I just took it for granted that the two of us would bond right away, I mean, isn’t that what is supposed to be happening the whole while a baby is growing in the tummy?  I used to feel so guilty about the disconnect I experienced then.  But I suppose like with any relationship I have, I had to work at it.  And even though I have always loved her in my own way, today Reagan said, “I love you too.”  Ahhhhhhhhhhhh…

On a completely different note, Reagan proved yesterday that she is indeed a Chu.  After her morning feed, and after I guzzled an entire glass of water, I let out a light belch…now come on…I know you would all burp too!  Reagan looked at me, grinning from ear-to-ear and giggled.  Hmmmmmmmm….so I let out another burp…the giggle turned into a laugh, then another burp and another burp, and yet more laughing!  It was a Chu symphony of burping and laughter.  It didn’t take her long to figure out the humour here so confirming the true Chu coming out in her!

I love you baby girl!
