2011 has been an amazing year for the Chus. There is nothing quite like Christmas time to remember how precious our lives are, and to dwell upon our sweet blessings, Reagan being our sweetest one of all! I thank God daily for sending us a sweet little baby girl…although she is no baby anymore!
Jai and I watched Reagan flourish from an itty bitty baby into an independent and active little girl. I recall spending the beginning of this year in Halifax with the Lee family, and how Reagan could barely sit up on her own. She teetered from side-to-side and tried to grasp cheerios with her chubby fingers. Oh how things have changed indeed! In the span of 12 months, she developed from a feeble baby into a walking, talking, running, jumping, ever-exploring, opinionated and not-so-little eater. She actually took her first steps just before her first birthday, demonstrating to us how she could not wait to grow-up. Yes, she is many things, an overachieving CHU she definitely is! She is not afraid to put mommy and daddy in their place and show us who is boss…and she is only 19 months! Boy, are we in trouble! Boy, is daddy in trouble when she becomes a teen…but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
I went back to work in June and it was a very very sad day for mommy. I missed Reagan immensely! I recall on my first day, sauntering over to a co-worker who had returned shortly before I did, and we shared tears first thing in the morning. But the sadness soon transitioned into relief and enjoyment to be back at work. I never thought it would happen, but I finally understood why so many parents enjoyed being at work. I developed a real appreciation for my daughter and treasure the time we have together so-much-more! I realized how I took the time we had for granted instead of treasuring every one with her. She doesn’t miss her mommy that much though,
Reagan was a little slow developing her language skills, but once it started, there was no turning back. We started with animal sounds like, “Moo”, “Ahhh Ahhh Ahhh” and “Woe Woe!”. Well actually, it started with, “NO!”…it is still mostly no, but she has since added on mommy, daddy, ma ma, yeh yeh and yes. There are also a great many other words like, “Whut-dis?”, “Happy”, “Wa Wa”, “Nie Nie” and so on and so on. Something new that developed within the last week is her ability to string two words together. She can say something simple like “Yes Mommy”. The first time I heard it I looked at her with wonder, and marvelled at how lovely and spirited she is.
Reagan is a blessing. Thank you Father for giving us someone so wonderful, someone we know we do not deserve, yet you have enriched our lives with her. Sweet Father.
