anyway, i think the movie is up there with the likes of the dark knight in the way of superhero/comic book movies. it was well written and wasn't too "over the top" like the later x-men and spiderman movies, and many action movies in general.

i didn't have high hopes when they announced it as joel said iron man 2, thor and captain america were mediocre at best. however, after hearing good reviews and then watching it myself, i was pleasantly surprised at how good the movie really was. i'd probably pay to watch it again, and in 3d again.

haha, those things dont phase me anymore. Those product placements are in every blockbuster these days. It's the only way they can guarantee that their "advertising" hits an audience in today's era or pvr's and online streaming and pirating.

the product placements that crack me up are usually the ones where in the middle of the movie some main character picks up a can of coke/pepsi or whatever and takes a thirst quenching sip with the logo clearly in place

the rdx in the final battle was so obvious that i laughed out loud. the rl's (i think) in the beginning car chase scene weren't too bad. but i think stark left in the end in the yet unreleased (and perhaps even never to be realised) nsx. much like how he had an unreleased r8 in the first iron man.

i finally watched it. I thought the movie was good, but still left a bit disappointed. maybe i gave in to all the hype too much. it's miles better than i thought thor/capt. america/ironman2, but the more i think about it I felt it lacked in a few areas.

don't get me wrong there were lots of positives out of the movie. just didn't think it was exceptional. Don't read any further if you haven't watched (SPOILERS)
some of the issues i had were:

the villain, i like Loki as a character (i liked how they showcased him more in the Thor movie than this one, even though the overall movie was npretty lame), but at no time did i have the impression that he stood any sort of chance against the avengers, thor already handily beat him one-on-one in the thor movie, so how is he going to have any chance against multiple heroes?

the ending, seemed all a little too deus ex machina to me, selvig somehow subconsciously designing an off switch to the cube?!? really?

I thought the movie actually relied heavily on the character development from the previous movies and since most of those movies were not particularly great, it was hard for me to really be that invested in these characters.

but what do i know... this movie has been getting rave reviews and is still selling out 3 weeks after it was released... i must be missing something.

i had a few more issues, but overall the movie was pretty entertaining... just not overly compelling.

transformers was sold out for weeks on end too... and yeah.

yeah, i forgot about that part with the "turn off" switch. yeah, that was pretty lame.

but as for loki's ambition to beat the whole team, i think it was more of a "i'm smarter than you" thing rather than a "i'm tougher than you". he knew in the thor movie that he wasn't as strong as thor, so he had to outsmart him. he almost did too, but then thor's brute strength bested him. it reminds me of mufasa and scar from lion king haha. stark was talking about that too, how loki needed to be able to beat them because he wanted to showboat, which, ironically was his demise.

i've been watching that mini series, and i can't tell if it was inspired by the movies or made before the movies. tony stark's voice sounds a lot like robert downey jr's, and nick fury is black.

so far it's not that good though, but a good way to pass the time while wesley is asleep while i'm carrying him.

so after watching this movie again last night with the subtitles on so i could actually catch what everyone was saying, i have a little to add to the whole hulk discussion.

i think hulk "losing control" in the helicarrier was all loki's doing. the spear was captured with loki (who was willingly captured) and banner grabbed the spear subconsciously. he was in complete control the entire time, even when he "lost" control and snapped at widow in india. i think loki's spear needed to be in close proximity of banner to exercise some sort of control even if it's just that little bit to bring his barriers down. why else would loki need to be on the ship?

i also watched the deleted scenes and there are two that support this theory somewhat. one has hawkeye talking to loki about the "new response team". loki asks about the members of the team and says something to the effect that he'd need to turn them all. perhaps he needed to be close to all of them to turn up the aggression and perhaps turn down the self control in them so they'd fall apart, as it definitely wasn't his plan to have s.h.i.e.l.d. use the tesseract to create those weapons of mass destruction nor to have fury keep them in the dark about it. rather, his presence (and perhaps some magical presence as well) turned up the heat a little and everyone lost control. that was his plan to defeat the team.

then the second deleted scene had the security guard that banner landed beside give him a "pep" talk on the hulk. he says something to the effect that "his mind has been made up" as to which way banner needs to go, and that the "rest" of him (which i could only assume he means his hulking body) will follow. this, along with his "i'm always mad" secret, suggests to me that banner figured out a while ago how to control and channel the hulk, even when he didn't exactly know it himself. the rage fest on the helicarrier made him second guess himself, but the wise old security guard put him back on track. that's why he showed up back at stark tower to rejoin the group.

i think stark knew all this too, which is why he kept provoking him, he knew that he wouldn't turn so he was just having fun with it.

anyway, that's my theory.
