so it turns out that they are going to make this a trilogy ... i was already disappointed when i found out it was going to be two movies... and now 3... shameless money grab... how they need to spend 3 movies on a book that was maybe half the length of the first book alone is beyond me...

and i was so looking forward to this too. The hobbit is supposed to be a children's story... how could you possibly need 3 movies to tell it?!?!

That's lame.
Maybe it's one of those assisted reading movies where someone just reads the book out loud, word for word. Actually, would that even take 9 hours?? Lol

they probably have a lot of flashbacks and someone reading the story to a kid who stayed home sick from school and who pretends that he doesn't want to hear the story but the story gets better so he's wondering who gets humperdinck as in who kills humperdinck at the end someone has to do it is it inigo who?

oh wait.

anyone watch it yet? have any reviews or thoughts.

joyce went to watch it with her students on a schoolwide field trip.

some of the things from her perspective or was told. she confirmed it will be another trilogy. the reason why it's so long is that they added more story than is actually from Tolkien's Hobbit. Dwarfs are finally cool again (at least peter jackson got this right, this time around). she feel asleep in parts, so what was a very good paced story in the Hobbit might be more drawn out in this version. Probably so they can milk as much as they can making the trilogy... oh well...

i'm so excite before... but much less so now... still somewhat looking forward to it i guess...

did joyce read the books? i find that those who have read them won't "feel asleep" as readily as those who have.

having said that, i haven't read the books.

This is just based on the one book... and The Hobbit is a relatively small book compared to the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

I'm not sure why having read the books would prevent you from falling asleep during the movie though.

because you have an idea of what's going on. i "read" the lotr books, and i put that in quotes because i was in grade 3 and had the attention span of hey what were we talking about?

anyway i found the original trilogy boring as snot as i had no clue as to what was going on. i ended up snoozing i think in 2 out of three of them.

I dunno.. I think you can still find it boring if you know what's going on. I've read all the books and I actually found all the Bilbo parts of the movies extremely boring.

yeah, frodo was boring too.

the cool parts were around how they had the a-team with two warriors, an elf and a dwarf.

so i got a chance to watch it.

i was already looking forward to being disappointed after i heard about the whole trilogy.

so if you go watch, expect it not to follow the original plot. I would say about two-thirds of the movie is not from the actual hobbit novel. a lot of this they provide some backdrop or further explanation of details the hobbit just never discusses, as well as some build up to try more closely link the story to the "lord of the rings".

because of all the new additions, i think the plot pace is thrown off a bit transitioning from these "new elements" from the original ones.

also the cinematography or special filming they used, give the movie that "documentary" style, that those higher frequency TVs achieve. I know there are some people who really don't like it and prefer the traditional less "live" looking style.

traditionalists will probably hate the guts out of this movie. it's ok. but nowhere as awesome as i thought it would be when i first heard about it. at least peter jackson seemed to represent dwarves better this time as opposed to what he did to "gimli" in the LOTR.

I heard the higher frame rate they used to film this movie made some people motion sick.
