As some of you know, Jai and I (well…mostly me) have been wavering a bit on how to sleep train our dear baby girl, Reagan. Do we start now that she is technically just over 3 months from our original due date or do we wait longer? Should we have started earlier? Does she weigh enough and carry enough body fat to be able to sleep through a night without an additional feed? And the single evil in this world is too much information. There are a ka-jillion books out there on the subject of baby sleep, and their advice can range anywhere from no, never let your baby cry, always attend to their needs, to let them cry cry cry until they get it, and then there is everyone else in between. On top of that, the internet is just WAY too empowering which adds to the confusion and frustration of, “What the heck is a good parent supposed to do?”

Well, I guess it is a little bit of everything. Do a little reading, be enlightened, check out what other parents have done and then when you’re ready, JUST DO IT!
So…we did it yesterday. First we finally moved Reagan completely from the family bed to her own crib (Win and Pete, we got to use your beautiful gift at long last!), and second, she was going to have to figure out how to sleep on her own without the mommy pacifier.
Slow and steady wins the race, as they say; and besides, taking things slow and pfizer viagra online romantic can be especially fulfilling for both partners. Sure she fussed a bit before her naps but she was whining more than actually crying…this I can handle no problem! But anticipation mounted as the evening quickly encroached upon us and before I knew it, it was time for her night bedtime.
After our usual evening routine, Reagan was ready to be put down into her crib at 7:40. In the past I held and caressed and soothed her until she fell asleep, but those days were over. I made sure her tummy was full then cuddled her until she was at peace but awake, then lay her down on her tummy. I made sure her pink monkey was in her crib for company then snuck out as stealthily as I could. Well Reagan is smarter than me because as soon as I made a creak on the floorboards, she immediately sucked in a good amount of air into her lungs, exhaled and proceeded to belt out a cry as loud as she could. Jai and I sat in the next room watching the video monitor on occasion, watched the clock, and with each passing moment it seemed her cries were escalating. It was that, “Where the heck are you mommy and why haven’t you come to check in on your sweet baby girl?????!!!!!!!!!”. You can only imagine how a cry like that would pull at a mommy’s heartstrings and evoke many many tears from her eyes. Geneva was great, chatting with me on Facebook, but in the end, I had to leave the house. So off to the Jungs I happily and grudgingly went to escape the evil baby cry. Guilty does not even begin to express how I felt for letting her brutally cry for 1 hour and 17 minutes, but for the sake of all our sanities and the need to recoup, it had to be done.
Thank you Jungs for letting me hang out! It was comforting to be in the presence of those who have been there before. And thank you to all the other moms who have been of great counsel and encouragement, and to our Lord who has been walking along side us all along! I could not have survived the night without you all!
In the end, Reagan woke up 2 more times, cried a little but slept close to 10.5 hours! She woke up happy, albeit a little weary but she slept well! Here is hoping for a better night tonight…
